When school and flight instructor are "abusive"...

During these years, from the birth of ultralights, there has been a very long period in which the fields of flight reigned improvisation and unconsciousness, almost always dictated by the absolute lack of knowledge of the rules and principles of flight by of those who "taught" to unwitting students. The result ? catastrophic: new pilots, which, although devoid of an education just enough, but capable of directing the "sports equipment" from one field to another one, also have become trainers of other new fans.

It should not surprise us, therefore, if, even today, there are "pilots" who are no more idea of what is and what will need the traffic circuit, which are landing from any direction, that never saw an aeronautical chart or a card of route, do not know what the second scheme is, which have never tried a simulated engine failure landing, do not know the technique for an emergency landing, do not know the maximum efficiency speed of their aircraft, do not know which allowed speed for the extension of the flap and, going high in the final for the landing, they stall the plane and then back to low altitude (hopefully for them that the engine will always help them and who can assess their skills well remittance from the stall)!

Unfortunately, the advent of the amnesty and the new legislation have covered the flight for pleasure or sports, but have not completely eradicated the unfairness which, indeed, survives.

 

In fact, many are the improvised and irregular "flight schools" present on our territory, many web sites, billboards and brochures that promise piloting courses and tourist flights, but despite the many offers, we meet in front of disarming reality: questionable people that are not accepted or rejected by the courses organized by Aero Club of Italy, self "instructors" of an elusive and abusive "flight school", welcome their unconscious "students" on board the old and antiquated ultralights, often not registered and no insuranced, kept in dilapidated hangar and maybe even abusive too. In addition, then, the connivance of some schools regularly certified, but without scruples, which include such "students" in their courses, allowing them to hold examinations and consecrate "PILOT"...on paper !

 

The rules require, however, that the flight school must be certified and controlled by Aero Club of Italy and has certain characteristics, such as a specific organization, well maintained and registered aircrafts, insurances for student and instructor, an educational program regularly approved by at least 16 flight hours (not 12 as in the past) and, of course, qualified instructors from the same AeCI.

When everything does not happen, you are faced with grotesque situations, where, for example, the students will never be allowed to make his "Solo" Pilot flight (this happens even in some regularly certified schools !) before the examination, which must be held on the same field used for flight training. Certainly, the new provision from AeCI provides that, if the number of students don't reaches the number of 10 units, the examination can be done on other airfield. This does not mean that we "allow" schools to carry out illegal activities on their airfield and then transfer the pupils for exams at a complaisant certified school !

To determine the safety of the flight in short are, of course, but not limited to, knowledge and compliance with the rules, but also the use of airplanes at the use of the same within the limits dictated by the designer and a proper technical preparation. Therefore, it is unthinkable and unacceptable that someone, maybe lover, decides to "teach" to fly without he has the skills, licenses and who has been trained to do so. It goes without saying that such an eventuality, at a school improper, associated with the use of an old airplane and patched, not the maximum of security, but the greatest hazard.
